ShoutOUT! Filmmaker Yeo Siew Hua conferred with Young Artist Award

Singapore - Film director and writer Yeo Siew Hua, winner of the Golden Leopard at Locarno Film Festival 2018 with his sophomore feature A Land Imagined, has been conferred the Young Artist Award by the National Arts Council (NAC) of Singapore, alongside five other practitioners working across the field of theatre,  dance, visual arts, and music. Instituted in 1992, the Award was established with the aims of encouraging young practitioners to continue their pursuit of artistic excellence, as well as recognising their potential for greater leadership roles in both Singapore and globally. Filmmaking has been traditionally well-represented in the Awards, with winners from the film world regularly present since the late 2000s.

Alongside the Award, the Cultural Medallion, the top national arts accolade in Singapore, was also presented to two individuals with distinctive contributions to the local Chinese literary and Malay music scenes.

Yeo is currently in the midst of preparing for his third feature, a neo-noir titled Stranger Eyes, produced by Fran Borgia of Akanga Film Asia. The project most recently won the HAF Fiction Award 2020 at the Hong Kong Asia Film Financing Forum, and was also selected at a variety of development programmes including the 2016 - 2017 SEAFIC Script Lab, Busan Asian Project Market 2018, Talents Tokyo 2018, Rotterdam CineMart 2019, Nipkow Residency 2019, Aide aux Cinemas du Monde Film Fund 2021, and the Taipei Golden Horse Film Project Promotion 2021. The project is also a grantee of the Purin Pictures Grant of fall 2021.
