Aiming to address current gaps in the short film distribution landscape for Southeast Asian works, Singapore film company Momo Film Co will be launching the Momo Distribution Grant in partnership with C47 Investment to provide distribution fundings for emerging Southeast Asian filmmakers. This grant will support up to five short films each year with a cash amount of SGD800 each, disbursed in two tranches.
“At Momo Film Co, we believe that independent cinema provides a valuable space for a diverse variety of narratives to be shared,” say Tan Si En and Kris Ong, Momo Film Co founders. “In a year where the pandemic has altered our industry and lives drastically, it is our commitment to support emerging Southeast Asian filmmakers.”
Echoing this sentiment, Sangchul Lee, COO of South Korean-Singapore content investment company C47 Investment continues: “C47 Investment believes in supporting Southeast Asian talents and is excited to collaborate with Momo Film Co in helping filmmakers share their work with the world through Momo Distribution Grant.”
Applications for the Momo Distribution Grant will open from 1 Jan till 28 Feb 2021. It is open to filmmakers of Southeast Asian nationality (Southeast Asia. Southeast Asia will be defined as Cambodia, East Timor, Indonesia, Laos, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Brunei, Singapore, Thailand, and Vietnam), who have made at least one short film that has screened at international festivals or programs, but not made a feature length film before, and who are not full-time students.
