ShoutOUT! Submit your film projects to the Purin Pictures Fall Season Funding Round

'I Am Walking' - project by Chan Sze-Wei

Attention all filmmakers, another source of funding is now open for applications – this is the Purin Pictures' Production & Post-production funding programs for Southeast Asian feature-length fiction and documentaries. Production funding for fiction feature films is US$30,000 per project and US$15,000 per project for documentaries. Post-production is a service package at White Light Studio. While short films are not eligible for funding, omnibus feature made up of several short films are eligible. Funding outcomes for production are completely independent of funding decisions for post-production so a film that did not get funding under the production can apply for the post-production grant. One interesting aspect of the funding is the earmarking of at least one grant for a forst or second-time female feature filmmaker, in a commitment to promote under-represented voices in Southeast Asian cinema!

'One Point Zero' - Project by The Maw Naing

Some of the recently awarded projects in the 2020 Spring season include One Point Zero by The Maw Naing from Myanmar. The film tells the story of factory worker Mi-Thet who inadvertently gets dragged into joining a workers revolt against abuse but later meets with a sudden car crash. Director of Marlina The Murderer in Four Acts, Mouly Surya from Indonesia, is also a grant recipient for her project The City is a Battlefield. The film is about Isa, a former war fighter-turned-elementary school teacher, whose service during the war for independence leaves him with both an honourable reputation and trauma. Chan Sze-Wei from Singapore also received the funding for the documentary I am walking. The film follows three vogue dancers in the underground ballroom scenes of Bangkok, Kuala Lumpur and Manila, who vogue their way to the Latex Ball in New York City.
